Fuel benefit rates
With effect from 6 April 2015, the figure used to calculate the cash equivalent of the benefit of car fuel received by an employee for private use, is increased from £21,700 to £22,100. The figure representing the cash equivalent of the benefit of a van received by an employee rises from £3,090 to £3,150 and van fuel benefit increases from £581 to £594.
Christmas returns
HMRC received 1,733 tax returns online on Christmas Day. The busiest filing hour was midday to 1pm, when 148 documents were submitted. A total of 24,228 online returns were received over the three-day festive period – up 5% on 23,059 in 2013.
Budget
The chancellor of the exchequer will deliver the 2015 Budget on 18 March.
Online service
More than half a million businesses have signed up to the online service Your Tax Account, which enables small firms to manage their affairs in a single secure space, according to HMRC.
VAT guides
HMRC have released an updated Notice 700: the VAT Guide, which cancels and replaces the August 2013 version. The Revenue has also published VAT: Businesses Supplying Digital Services to Private Consumers, to explain new rules that apply from 1 January 2015.
