  • HMRC’s report on reconciling 2013-14 PAYE charges suggests employers can help prevent discrepancies arising in the tax they believe to be due and the amount HMRC expect. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the report make sure that clients are clear about their obligations under RTI and are following the correct procedures.
     
  • The taxpayer’s adviser in Duffy failed to tell his client how much tax he should pay on 31 January. Check your processes to ensure that your clients all receive notification of the amount of tax and National Insurance due on that date (and 31 July) in good time so that they can organise payment to HMRC.
