With regard to Alex Byne’s article Eroding the adviser, I actually have no problem with HMRC sending copies of correspondence to the client during the course of an enquiry into their affairs.
This makes the client aware straight away of the issues involved and the potential additional information required by HMRC. This should speed up the process of collating the information and replying fully to any queries.
I am always keen to actively involve the client in any enquiry, because they are ultimately responsible.
