Former chancellor Denis Healey has been recognised by the profession's leading body for his contribution to the tax sector.
Economist John Kay, director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, joined the Labour peer in being awarded with an honorary fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
The organisation's president, Andrew Hubbard, made the presentations at the CIOT's annual president’s luncheon at the Dorchester Hotel, London, yesterday.
Mr Hubbard remarked, 'It is a tremendous privilege to be able to recognise two such distinguished figures of the economic world'.
Lord Healey was one of three ex-chancellors at the event. Also in attendance were Conservative peers Geoffrey Howe and Nigel Lawson, both of whom are honorary fellows of the CIOT.
