I wonder if readers have any suggestions with regards to the following scenario. An acquaintance called at my office the other day. She could perhaps be best described as an information technology 'geek' and she had a very interesting idea, which if it came to fruition could be worth a substantial amount of money and could potentially yield a very high income stream.

I wonder if readers have any suggestions with regards to the following scenario. An acquaintance called at my office the other day. She could perhaps be best described as an information technology 'geek' and she had a very interesting idea which if it came to fruition could be worth a substantial amount of money and could potentially yield a very high income stream. She is considering various angles with regards to this idea such as how to protect it (I presume that a computer program would be her copyright   but whether it can be patented I am unsure) but she was also of course wondering about the potential tax issues.
Every so often I read in the papers that the shares in the companies of certain well-known entrepreneurs are actually owned by an offshore trust.
I think that my 'client' would prefer to remain resident...
