It may have escaped the attention of many advisers but on 26 July the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy issued a number of documents relating to the issue of status of workers and the national minimum wage (tinyurl.com/beisempstatjul). These documents include several matters of interest to professionals working in this area of tax.

Response to employment status consultation

At last after more than four years of waiting we have a response from the government after its 2018 consultation on the status of workers. This process started from the review that had been undertaken by Matthew Taylor commissioned by the then prime minister Theresa May.

In light of that review the government started a period of consultation on how things may change. It seems so long since that process started many will have felt that it had been forgotten...
