Revenue Scotland is undertaking a programme of work in July to upgrade its online tax portal – the Scottish electronic tax system (SETS). This will affect filing of land and buildings transaction and Scottish landfill tax returns. It expects to switch off the old system at 4pm on 18 July. The new system is expected to go live at midday on 24 July.
Taxpayers and agents should avoid submitting returns during the downtime period. Failing that paper returns can be submitted. New forms for both taxes will be available from the Revenue Scotland website from 18 July. Paper returns must be filed with a cheque to cover payment of tax due because BACS is not available for this method of submission. From 19 July returns for the land and buildings transaction tax must be sent to Revenue Scotland instead of Registers of Scotland.
