Repaying overpaid SEISS grants

HMRC has published new guidance on how businesses can repay grants received under the self-employment income support scheme (SEISS) to which they were not entitled. If a business has claimed in error been overpaid or would like to make a voluntary repayment the guidance sets out what to do using the government portal.

The scheme guidance has also been updated. It explains that as a result of the extension of the scheme until 19 October 2020 a second and final grant can be claimed from 17 August 2020 and will be available to businesses which have been ‘adversely affected’ by coronavirus on or after 14 July 2020. 

Businesses – other than limited companies or trusts – can claim a further grant from 17 August 2020 regardless of whether they made a claim for the first grant; HMRC confirms the scheme is now closed to new...
