Dementia is a condition that affects nearly everyone in the UK whether that is through personally being diagnosed or knowing a friend or family member who has the disease. The Alzheimer’s Society describes the range of emotions that come alongside a diagnosis: grief loss anger shock fear disbelief and even relief.

Often the relief can come as the diagnosis gives an explanation for the symptoms and gives people and their families the ability to be able to plan ahead. Such action is key for creating the best scenario in the worst of circumstances. Planning relieves pressure on the person with dementia and those around them reducing stress and allowing those affected to enjoy the time they have left without worrying about the practicalities of what might happen further down the line.
