There are currently nine people in the making tax digital (MTD) for income tax self-assessment pilot HMRC has confirmed. It explains this is because it is starting with a small-scale controlled pilot where it can guide individual users through the MTD process and evaluate their feedback.
HMRC says it wants to ensure there is a robust testing of the end-to-end MTD for ITSA service before 2024 to ensure it works as intended for those within scope.
An HMRC spokesperson said: ‘We are working closely with customers and software providers on the introduction of MTD ITSA. As part of this work we are running a controlled pilot where we can guide users through the MTD process and evaluate their feedback. We took the same approach for the VAT pilot service ahead of the introduction of MTD for VAT in 2019.
