With Christmas around the corner tax professionals may be looking for a break from year end work before summoning up the courage to tackle the inevitable self-assessment tax return deadlines.

In an ever changing legislative environment it is sometimes good to reflect not only on the things that do change but also the features of the tax system that remain unchanged for decades if not generations.

It is often said that business would prefer certainty to constant change. In this article I look at elements of the tax system that have barely changed over the past two decades which I would argue has been to the benefit of almost everyone – except potentially professional lecturers.
