The ATT has reported that when attempting to file VAT returns for non-MTD clients, some agents have received messages informing them that their client has signed up to MTD for VAT, even though the client has not yet done so.
In an update provided to the association, HMRC states that any agent who receives an error in sign-up messages informing them that the client has signed up to making tax digital (MTD) even when the client has not yet done so, should continue through the screens to file their client's non-MTD VAT return.
HMRC anticipates that this issue will affect about 190,000 businesses whose account has been migrated or will be migrated to the newly integrated enterprise tax management platform (ETMP) in the coming months and is working on a solution to prevent this incorrect message.
