Simple assessments

HMRC has produced information about simple assessments. It covers what simple assessments are why HMRC uses them and what pensioners need to do on receipt of a simple assessment.


Making tax digital

HMRC has updated its making tax digital for income tax guidance to confirm that it will look at the tax return submitted by the taxpayer for the previous year to determine the qualifying income for the current tax year. If a taxpayer jointly owns a property and only receives notice of their share of the income after expenses have been deducted then HMRC will assess that figure as the taxpayer’s qualifying income.
