HMRC has updated VAT Notice 701/10: Zero rating books and printed matter to add information on the liability of supplies of electronic publications that became zero rated from 1 May 2020.

Job retention scheme

HMRC has updated its guidance on the coronavirus job retention scheme to update employers on changes to the scheme from 1 August 2020.

HMRC charter

The Chartered Institute of Taxation has commented on the consultation on HMRC’s charter. It believes that the existing document with a few updates would provide a sound basis for the future and would adequately set out the values and principles of HMRC and taxpayers’ rights and obligations when dealing with HMRC. In particular it favours the ‘two-way’ approach of the charter which separately states HMRC’s obligations and those of taxpayers.
