The value of claims made under the coronavirus job support scheme (CJRS) at 7 June was £19.6bn according to HMRC’s latest figures.
The total number of employers that made at least one CJRS claim to 31 May 2020 is 1.07 million. Some 6 300 large employers have furloughed around 2.5 million employments and those operating in the wholesale and retail sector have made claims covering 1.6 million jobs with a claim value of £3.3bn. Construction sector employers have made CJRS claims covering 680 000 jobs with the financial value totalling £1.8bn.
Claims for the self-employment income support scheme began on 13 May. HMRC identified some 3.4 million self-employed individuals as potentially eligible for this scheme and by 31 May 2.4 million of that population (70%) had claimed a grant with the value of claims totalling £7bn. The average value for each claim was £2 900.
