Making Tax Digital for VAT is proceeding as planned.

HMRC has had to make some tough choices about how it uses its resources so it can deliver its EU exit responsibilities but Making Tax Digital for VAT is proceeding as planned.

In an email to stakeholders Theresa Middleton the director of HMRC’s MTD for business programme said: ‘We’re now at the point where we need to step up our internal preparations to make sure we’re ready for next March. In practical terms that means putting skilled project teams on to this work straight away.’

Although there will be changes to the delivery of some aspects of MTD she confirmed that HMRC and ministers remained committed to VAT mandation: ‘These changes do not impact our plans for VAT – the majority of customers with turnover above the VAT threshold will still be mandated to use the MTD for VAT service from April 2019 – and...
