KEY POINTS

  • Brexit is having little effect on firms’ recruitment plans.
  • Specialist skills are sought after as companies develop new revenue streams.
  • Strong need for mid-management roles.
  • Tax salaries likely to remain flat over the year.

Taxation continues to command the headlines from Brexit to the Paradise Papers – now more than before organisations are identifying tax as a key part of their operational strategy. HMRC enjoyed a successful year with tax receipts at the highest level since the recession. Tax take rose by £35.6bn in 2016-17 to £569.3bn driven largely by taxes that target wealthy individuals. Markets such as financial technology (fintech) and start-ups have seen a notable rise in job opportunities whereas financial services organisations continue to hire within compliance and regulatory areas.
