  • The deadline for filing 2016-17 expenses and benefits (6 July) may seem some time away but it may be worth sending a reminder to clients who have to do this especially those who have opted to payroll benefits.

 

  • Notices to file returns should not be ignored as the taxpayer found in Malinovskaya. This could be a timely opportunity for publicising what taxpayers should do and how you can help.

 

  • Periodically the OTS publishes reports or announcements of different areas of taxation it is reviewing. If these are of interest consider taking the time to submit comments. Current ones include stamp duty on paper transactions and complexity in general.

 

  • Before agreeing to any settlement advisers should refresh themselves as to the administrative provisions relevant to the case. Look first at how the claim...
