The good fight
The news item on Making Tax Digital (‘Computer literacy eludes many smaller businesses’ Taxation 9 March 2017) referencing a report of a survey carried out by the UK200 group confirms the fact that most small businesses do not have the IT skills needed to comply with the requirements of HMRC for their record-keeping.
Contrast this with the Budget article in the same issue (‘Is that it?’). The second paragraph headed ‘Making Tax Digital’ states that ‘This is simply postponing the apparent inevitability of the new system’.
There is no inevitability it will only be forced on taxpayers by the Treasury and HMRC steamroller if they are allowed to get away with it.
