Liability estimated for 2015 at just under £20m for London alone
Jolyon Maugham QC, founder of The Good Law Project, is suing Uber for non-payment of VAT on its taxi services. He calculates the liability for 2015 would be just under £20m for London alone. This is based on the £115m the company collected in fares in the capital. Mr Maugham told ITV: ‘I am suing Uber to understand whether HMRC treats these big US multinationals with kid gloves’.
The Good Law Project was initially set up to hold the government to account through legal challenges.
