Does renting a home through Airbnb qualify as a furnished holiday letting?

My client purchased and refurbished a residential property in 2015-16. From June 2016 he started to let property on an occasional basis for about 90 days a year through the online homestay network Airbnb.

He lets the property only when he is away because it is his main residence. I am not sure whether this qualifies as a furnished holiday letting and am unsure how the income should be taxed. He started to receive an income from his residential property letting in tax year 2016-17 but the costs and expenses in setting up the business occurred in tax year 2015-16. Does he need to add these to his current return?
