  • Although you may not legally give financial advice it is worth drawing clients’ attention to the new lifetime individual savings account – even if they are not eligible their children may find it useful.

 

  • Two cases reported this week cover unauthorised payments from a pension scheme both of which went in favour of HMRC. If a client visits you with an idea about using their pension fund for a loan make sure they are aware of the likely tax due if the payments fall foul of FA 2004 s 161 et seq.

 

  • You’ve read all the articles on the latest version of the Professional Conduct in Relation to Taxation but remember to read the document as well. Bring it to the attention of staff – regardless of whether they have a professional qualification.
