  • HMRC has published a consultation on the requirement to notify details of the use of complex offshore structures. Take some time to read this important document and respond.

 

  • The distinction between income and capital receipts has created a lot of problems and litigation. It was interesting that the First-tier Tribunal agreed with the taxpayer that on this occasion the settlement should be treated as capital. As ever each case has to decided on its facts.

  • Voluntary VAT registration will usually be advantageous if the business makes wholly or mainly zero-rated sales or it makes sales to customers who can recover that input tax.
