  • It may be unlikely but it could be worth contacting clients who receive tax credits in case their entitlement has been reduced or stopped. Check that the decision was correct and if necessary submit evidence to show whether it needs amending.

 

  • The First-tier Tribunal in W Ritchie H Ritchie ruled that HMRC was wrong to include material from an alternative dispute resolution process in its statement of case. Remember this in case you have a situation when the ADR has not been successful and the dispute later goes to a tribunal.

 

  • HMRC’s research on mid-size businesses found that awareness of tax policy changes is quite low. Make sure that you communicate need-to-know developments to clients not only by letter or email but perhaps by holding occasional workshops.
