Departmental revamp to focus on customer service

The department is to focus on customer-facing teams.

HMRC has announced the next stage of its ‘building our future’ programme with some restructuring of its organisation.

From October HMRC will reorganise its four directorates into three new groups:

  • a new customer strategy and tax design group which brings together the department’s customer strategy tax policy process design and tax assurance teams led by Jim Harra;
  • an expanded customer service group led by Ruth Owen; and
  • a customer compliance group responsible for tackling all non-compliance and enforcement led by Jennie Granger.

According to HMRC the reorganisation builds on other structural changes made over the past couple of years. It will help the department place ‘a greater focus on customers to change how we provide our services to help people get their taxes right and how we target our response...
