- The consultations keep coming. Take time to read the one on strengthening tax avoidance sanctions for promoters of tax avoidance and then consider responding at least to ensure that the definition of an avoidance enabler is specific.
- The First-tier Tribunal’s decision in G4S Cash Solutions (UK) Ltd (TC5015) confirmed that parking fines were not tax deductible because they related to a breach of the law and were not for the purpose of a trade. Remember this if a client incurs similar fines.
- The Making Tax Digital project will make increasing use of third-party information to pre-populate individual tax accounts. If clients have undeclared income that may be exposed as a consequence now may be the time to make a voluntary disclosure.
