Put your client admin into motion.
- The consultation documents on making tax digital (along with others on different topics) have been published. Take time to read them and to respond. This will help to ensure that the system works to the benefit of taxpayers rather than just HMRC.
- In CRC v Caithness the Upper Tribunal has confirmed that the VAT legislation does not require the consumer to have control over the way services are supplied. This may be worth bearing in mind for similar situations where zero rating is disputed.
- Have you checked the Panama papers data to see whether any of your clients are listed? If client names do appear warn them that they are likely to be contacted by HMRC. Can you show that any offshore tax arrangements are legitimate.
