John Whiting to step down from the OTS

John Whiting is to step down after six years with the organisation.

John Whiting will end his stint as tax director of the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) later this year.

He has worked with the OTS since it was formed in 2010 and was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s birthday honours this year.

The Treasury has begun the recruitment process for a new permanent tax director. The responsibilities will include:

  • providing the intellectual leadership and guidance for the OTS working with the chair and head of office to oversee its operation and output in accordance with the OTS’s strategic vision;
  • leading OTS engagement and relationships with Treasury ministers parliament and a range of senior internal and external stakeholders as well as representing the OTS at public engagements;
  • using knowledge of the tax system and political debates to drive forward OTS work including deciding on proposals for reviews...
