- It’s time for a last-minute check (if you have not done so already) that employer clients have submitted their RTI final submissions for the year ended 5 April 2016. Also remind them about the deadline for reporting employee expenses and benefits.
- The First-tier Tribunal’s decision in the Ian Hall appeal that HMRC should suspend a penalty is worth bearing in mind. Always check that HMRC has given due consideration to conditions for suspension – it may be that not all these have been given the attention that they deserve.
- The First-tier Tribunal’s decisions on disputes over the use of the do-it-yourself VAT builders’ scheme seem to be all over the place. Try to prevent problems arising by ensuring that claims meet the requirements of the legislation and all the supporting paperwork is available.
