The Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) has published a high-level strategy consultation on plainer taxation for individuals and businesses. To deliver its strategy the OTS plans to:
- set out how new trends and changes in business and employment, such as the sharing economy, will affect tax;
- consider how to make tax simpler in light of these changes;
- review areas integral to these trends and identify difficult issues when an informed discussion is required;
- encourage simplification to be built into tax policy making and implementation early on in the process; and
- engage closely with HMRC on its digital agenda.
The document explains the purpose and aims of the OTS, how it should operate and be staffed, and how it should measure its performance.
It is also intended to prepare the ground for the OTS stakeholder conference on 18 July. Comments should be emailed before then. For details, see here.
