OTS seeks views on small company taxation

Questions from the OTS on how the tax system could be simplified.

The Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) has published a series of questions as part of its review of the tax system for small incorporated businesses in particular those with fewer than ten employees.

The review the terms of which were published in July is expected to provide its initial report by the next budget.

Areas of interest include the engagement of small companies with the tax system in the past 20 years why businesses incorporate and the uncertainties caused by the tax system.

Questions include:

  • How well do initial registration processes with Companies House and HMRC work?
  • How could online tax compliance be made easier?
  • Overall what has been your experience in any dealings with HMRC for small companies?
  • Do you feel that HMRC understand your activities and concerns?
  • ...
