Most small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) use an adviser to aid them through the mire of their tax and accounting responsibilities. Despite promises from successive governments that red tape would be cut and the tax burden reduced business owners have to devote too much time reporting to HMRC as well as acting as unpaid tax collectors in the case of PAYE. It is hardly surprising that most prefer to share if not entirely pass on that load with an expert.
