Can company directors claim relocation expenses at a new location?
My client and her unmarried partner have recently left their employment in Sussex to start their own business (in the same sector) in the East Midlands. They are full-time working directors and minority shareholders in the new company having 12.5% of the shares each. They have relocated to the midlands from about 120 miles away and are renting a flat two miles away from their new work site. They previously lived “rent free” at the home of one of their parents.
The new business has been profitable from day one and they plan to open a second branch in Yorkshire within the next year or so possibly sooner.
They have without doubt moved to take up their new employment. In these circumstances what relocation expenses including rent and subsistence can be paid to them...
