Should changes be made?
The Treasury has published Strengthening the incentive to save: a consultation on pensions tax relief.
The government is interested in views on how the system could be reformed.
These range from a fundamental reform of the system, for example moving to a system which was taxed in a similar way to individual savings accounts and providing a government top-up on contributions, to less radical changes, such as retaining the current system but altering the lifetime and annual allowances.
