The trouble with HMRC’s customer service
KEY POINTS
- HMRC’s SA helpline’s curious opening hours.
- The quality of HMRC’s customer service is staying the same or worse than it was.
- Advisers prefer to contact HMRC by telephone rather than post.
- There are too few Revenue employees who can solve complex tax problems.
I will begin with an apology. The point of this article was to report on the latest ICAEW research into HMRC’s customer service standards and indeed I will do this but not before my own personal rant (sorry comment) on their service.
We all know that the deadline for 2013/14 self-assessment tax returns was 31 January. That was last Saturday. Did you find inner peace by the way as promised by HMRC’s advertising campaign after you had completed your returns?
