HMRC are set to launch a test version of their latest web tool for tax advisers, as the department continues to ramp up its digital services.
The offering known as agent online self-serve (AOSS) will be made available by the end of the year to volunteers, to provide access to details of employer PAYE clients’ tax liabilities and payments.
Users will experience:
- a registration service;
- end-to-end authorisation process aimed to make it easier for agents to let the taxman know when they take on new clients; and
- personalised agents’ homepage, intended to enable advisers to view and manage clients’ tax affairs in one place
The Revenue plans to roll out AOSS throughout next year. Users will be asked to bring their client lists up to date so that the digital tool contains accurate and details of agents and the taxpayers they serve.
The tax department also plans to working with third-party software providers on the production of application programme interfaces (APIs) to ensure that their products are compatible with AOSS. APIs will also be provided to advisers who use in-house products.
AOSS’s functionality following full launch in 2015 will include enhanced options for agents who meet higher quality standards of tax returns.
