MIKE TRUMAN talks to Peter Kempster about the next 25 years for tax professionals


LOOKING BACK OVER the past 75 years of tax in general and the work of the CIOT in particular is a difficult enough task. When I interviewed Peter Kempster as President of the CIOT in its anniversary year I asked him to do something even more difficult –  to look forward to the next 25 years at some of the developments he expected for the CIOT and in taxation before the Institute reached its centenary.

We started by talking about future numbers of CTAs. The rate of increase in membership has averaged just under 4% for the past five years and now stands at nearly 14 000.  'I certainly expect that rate to continue at least in the short term ' said Kempster.
