MIKE TRUMAN reports on the outcome of Taxation's Freedom of Information Act application

LAST WEEK WE gave you details of an application we had made under the Freedom of Information Act to obtain a list of 'TIPs' which we understood to be the replacement for Business Economic Notes (BENs) giving information about particular trades to help HMRC Officers carrying out enquiries. We also asked why TIPs were not available to advisers as BENs were and for details of the decision to suspend publication of BENs. We have received a commendably fast response from HMRC's National Compliance Unit.

Tactical packages

TIPs stands for Tactical and Information Packages provided to HMRC Officers by the Business Information Unit. There are currently over 200 of them.
