RICHARD CURTIS surveys the construction industry scheme. Is it still standing?

SO LONG FAREWELL auf weidersehen goodbye. No not 'a Julie Andrews moment' but on 21 October HMRC placed an announcement on their website that the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) was being deferred for twelve months. I cannot imagine that there are many readers of Taxation who do not act on behalf of at least one or two clients in the construction industry yet the announcement was not on the front page of the website nor even on the front page of 'What's New' — presumably not important enough for 'a selection of the most recent or topical HMRC changes and announcements'. Instead it was in the 'second level' of 'What's New' under 'Taxes and Tax Credits formerly dealt with by the Inland Revenue'.

A little digging

Strangely for a subject of such interest the announcement was not even made...
