The Department of Trade and Industry recently published its research and development scoreboard. Despite the glowing headlines that the number of R&D mid-sized UK companies has increased by more than 75% over the last four years are the tax incentives working as effectively as the Government had intended? When R&D tax relief is suggested the reaction from many smaller companies including owner-managed businesses would indicate not: 'research and development? Oh no we don't...
