Students’ tax

The Low Incomes Tax Reform Group has launched an online tax guide for students. It is sponsored by the Chartered Institute of Taxation, funded by a grant from HMRC and operated in partnership with the National Association of Student Money Advisers. The offering covers a range of issues likely to affect students, including part-time employment, loan repayments, tax refunds, and tax credits and benefits

Finance Bill 2014 will be published on 27 March.

Inheritance tax

New inheritance tax forms are available: IHT205 (2011) Return of estate information, IHT217 Claim to transfer unused nil rate band for excepted estates, and IHT206 (2011) Notes to help you fill in form IHT205 (2011).

Money laundering

HMRC will become the supervisor of estate agency businesses under the Money Laundering Regulations 2007 on 1 April, taking over from the Office of Fair Trading.

Charities

HMRC have updated the demonstrator in response to common mistakes to help charities submit their gift aid repayment claims online.

VAT Notes

HMRC have published the latest version of VAT Notes. The quarterly publication contains a summary of recent changes to VAT rules.

FATCA

The latest version of the UK Guidance on the Implementation of The International Tax Compliance (United States of America) Regulations 2013 is available. It reflects contributions from UK business and advisers made before the updated US FATCA Regulations that were issued in February.
