  • High income taxpayers who receive child benefit will need to register for self assessment if they are not already in the system. This could be a useful marketing opportunity for you; for example submit an article to the local newspaper explaining what individuals should do and how you can help.
     
  • It is worth pursuing revenue versus capital expenditure arguments with HMRC as is demonstrated by the decision in Hopegar Properties where the tribunal agreed with the taxpayer that certain costs for repairs were revenue.
     
  • Tell clients that HMRC have the tools to check Facebook Twitter and other sites to find out what taxpayers are up to....
