Review of the Adjudicator’s report for 2012/13

KEY POINTS

More and more taxpayers are complaining about their treatment at the hands of HMRC and this is reflected in the latest Adjudicator’s report.

The monthly average for new complaints referred to the Adjudicator used to be between 120 and 150. In 2012/13 according to the Adjudicator Judy Clements:

“We have seen unprecedented increases with only one month below 140 rising to astonishing peaks in October and January of over 300 cases.”

In total the office received 16 365 enquiries in the year and a record 2 612 new complaints were taken up for investigation....
