Roaring with delight

The 7 February 2013 edition of Taxation has only just found its way to my desk. I want to congratulate you for having the courage to lead with Tax prat of the year. I roared with delight when I saw it!

I wholeheartedly agree that Ms Hodge’s views of the UK’s tax system are completely crackers. Other than demonstrating that she has no understanding of the UK (or global) tax system whatsoever nor any awareness of what actually happens in the real commercial world all she has achieved is promoting media hysteria based on her ill-informed comments.

As for the attack on accountants what she and nobody else seems to realise is that without accountants and tax advisers – those that she accuses of making huge profits (I wish!) from advising on tax avoidance and also advising HMRC in some cases – the tax...
