Paper deadline
Taxpayers sending their 2011/12 self-assessment tax return on paper must do so by the 31 October deadline.
Paper returns received on or after 1 November will incur a £100 penalty, even if there is no tax to pay or if the tax due is paid on time. The situation can be avoided by submitting the return online by 31 January 2013.
IRIS/Tolley link
Tolley and IRIS have teamed up to provide premium tax content in version 2 of IRIS OpenPortal.
Tolley is providing a selection of its tax data as well as practical guidance for tax and accounting practitioners, at no extra cost to IRIS, PTP and Drummohr users within the portal. Users can purchase further information at discounted prices if they wish.

Draft legislation has been published to extend business property relief from inheritance tax to entities carrying on the business of a market maker, within the definition given by the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (2004/39/EC), in a regulated market of a European Economic Area member state.

HMRC public enquiry centre in Gravesend has moved and is now located with Gravesham Borough Council at the Civic Centre, Windmill Street, Gravesend, Kent.
