In March 2012, HMRC launched an external email pilot. Early findings up to 15 June are:
- 136 agents returned their consent forms and have been given the email address to send queries to HMRC;
- 46 agents sent 150 queries by email.
Early feedback indicates that many of advisers have found the email pilot, which is to be extended to 31 December 2012, useful, and suggestions have been made as to how it could be improved.
HMRC will continue to discuss these ideas with the representative bodies to agree what changes can be implemented.
The department is also considering if the scope of subjects covered by the pilot can be increased.
