The Office of Tax Simplification’s (OTS) final report into small business tax showed that many businesses want to disincorporate but are prevented from doing so by various tax charges and administrative issues.
It therefore recommended that the government introduce a relief against these tax charges as well as making the procedure more straightforward.
In light of this, the government has published a consultation to investigate the nature and scale of demand for the relief, examining some of the design parameters and looking more closely at issues around creditor protection.
A final decision on introducing a relief or other measures will be taken following consultation.
