Kevin Slevin's article was spot on; how often have I asked the same question. I am like you an escapee and Kevin was spot on with his comparison with the past.

As he rightly said it is not the ‘fault’ of the overworked untrained staff but there is still an endemic sanctimonious seam that runs through the whole HMRC system which may well take some while to resolve – probably post our joint retirements – unless we can do something about it.

Kevin's article should surely help as it will no doubt be read in the upper echelons of power.

I am continually taking them to task over such issues (and keep my own personal file of their ‘careless errors’ to counter such claims against my clients) but alas my dealings with them always seem to be confrontational...
