Software provider Sage has denied claims that it will be unable to support iXBRL by 1 April, when use of the new tagging technology will become mandatory for filing corporation tax returns.
However, the company has admitted its anticipated accounts production package, which will include an iXBRL compliance tool, has been delayed until after the HMRC deadline
Online reports had appeared to suggest that the technology giant would not be able to provide any iXBRL service to its customers. One rival firm, IRIS, went as far as to offer a special 'guarantee' of service for Sage users who had been 'left stranded'.
IRIS MD Phill Robinson said, 'It appears Sage will have left large numbers of accountancy practices and their clients in the lurch with only ten weeks to go until the mandation date.'
Sage accounts division MD Jayne Archbold refuted Mr Robinson's remarks and said her company will release its fully supported XBRL Tagging software within ‘the next few weeks’. It will complement the Corporation Tax tool to enable users to submit fully iXBRL-compliant returns.
Ms Archbold added that her company will release a range of enhanced accounting software later in the year.
