The House of Commons took a final look at the Finance (No 2) Bill on 8 November. ALLISON PLAGER reports

KEY POINTS

  • Tax relief should be given to the video game industry.
  • No review needed of banks’ taxation.
  • Meeting European Commission requirements.

Before receiving its third reading the House of Commons considered the Finance (No 2) Bill as amended by the Public Bill Committee. The opposition had tabled a number of new clauses. However without wishing to dampen readers’ suspense none of them made it into the bill.

First new clause 1 and new Sch 2 ‘video game production’ were put forward by David Hanson (Lab).

Mr Hanson explained that the idea behind the proposed measures which would provide ‘enhanced relief based on UK expenditure on video game production’ was to prompt ‘an in-principle debate about video game industry tax relief’.
